Liebe Schwestern und Brüder im Bistum Trier,<br />
wir stehen wieder am Beginn der vierzigtägigen Vorbereitungszeit auf
Ostern. Das Evangelium des ersten Fastensonntags erzählt davon, dass der
Geist Gottes Jesus vor Beginn seines öffentlichen Wirkens in die Wüste
treibt, wo er vom Satan in Versuchung geführt wird. Vielleicht hören wir
das Evangelium über die Versuchung Jesu dieses Mal mit einer besonderen
Aufmerksamkeit. Denn seitdem Papst Franziskus sich bei einem
italienischen Fernsehsender zur sechsten Bitte des Vaterunsers geäußert
hat, wird darüber diskutiert, wie diese Gebetsbitte Jesu zu verstehen
ist.<br />
Während wir im Deutschen, aber z. B. auch im Englischen und im Italienischen beten: <i>„und führe uns nicht in Versuchung“</i>, zieht der Papst die Formulierung vor: <i>„und lass uns nicht in Versuchung geraten“</i>.
Sie entspräche mehr dem Gott, den Jesus Christus verkündet hat, so der
Papst. Angeregt durch diese Diskussion haben mich in den letzten Wochen
eine Reihe von Mails und Briefen erreicht, in denen Menschen mir zum
Teil sehr persönlich von ihrer Gebetserfahrung und von ihrem Gottesbild
berichtet haben. Einige teilen die Ansicht des Papstes, die Bitte
umzuformulieren, und so die Barmherzigkeit Gottes herauszustellen, zu
dem es nicht passe, dass er die Menschen in Versuchung führt. Andere
wiederum baten, mich dafür einzusetzen, dass diese Bitte nur ja nicht
verändert und das Vaterunser leichtfertig „geglättet“ werde. Auch aus
ökumenischer Sicht ist diese Frage gut zu bedenken, beten wir doch im
Deutschen über die Konfessionsgrenzen hinweg mit denselben Worten.<br />
<h3 class="headCrossheader3">
<i>„Lasst uns beten, wie der Herr uns zu beten gelehrt hat“</i></h3>
„Lasst uns beten, wie der Herr uns zu beten gelehrt hat“, so lautet
eine der Gebetseinladungen zum Vaterunser, die unser Messbuch vorsieht.
Durch diese Formulierung wird das Gebet in besonderer Weise an den
Wortlaut Jesu zurückgebunden. Schauen wir also auf diesen Wortlaut, wie
er uns von Matthäus und Lukas in ihren Evangelien überliefert ist.
Obwohl beide griechischen Textfassungen des Vaterunsers sich in manchem
unterscheiden, benutzen sie bei dieser Bitte dieselben Formulierungen.<br />
Das entscheidende Wort, das sie verwenden, heißt auf Deutsch:
„hineintragen“, „hineinbringen“. Damit ist eindeutig, dass es hier nicht
um eine Sache geht, in die ich wie zufällig hineingerate, sondern um
eine Situation, in die ich hineingeführt werde. <i>„Und führe uns nicht in Versuchung“ </i>ist
die getreue Übersetzung des griechischen Originals. Und da diese
Wendung auf die älteste Sammlung von Jesusworten zurückgeht, dürfen wir
annehmen, dass sie das wiedergibt, was auch das Aramäische, die
Muttersprache Jesu, ausdrücken wollte*. Sicher, eine Übersetzung stößt
immer an Grenzen. Sie ist in einem gewissen Sinn immer schon eine
Interpretation. Darum ist es wichtig, den Zusammenhang zu betrachten, in
dem Jesus diese Bitte gesprochen hat.<br />

<h3 class="headCrossheader3">
<i>Verbunden mit Israels Glaubenserfahrung</i></h3>
Wie Jesus selbst ist auch das Vaterunser verbunden mit der
Glaubenserfahrung des Volkes Israel. Wir finden sie in den Schriften des
Alten Testaments. Dort ist an vielen Stellen davon die Rede, dass Gott
seine Frommen auf die Probe stellt. Schon Adam und Eva wird der Baum der
Erkenntnis, von dem sie nicht essen dürfen, buchstäblich vor die Nase
gepflanzt. Sie können der Versuchung nicht widerstehen und werden zur
Strafe aus dem Paradies vertrieben. Denken wir an Abraham, der in seinem
Gehorsam erprobt wird, indem er seinen einzigen Sohn opfern soll. Oder
an Hiob, der sein Vertrauen zu Gott nicht aufkündigt, obwohl ihm alles
genommen wird. Hier wird die Versuchung sogar positiv gesehen: Sie
stärkt das Vertrauen in Gott, indem sie den Menschen vor
Herausforderungen stellt, in denen er sich im Glauben bewähren und
reifen kann.<br />
Vielleicht kennen Sie, liebe Schwestern und Brüder, solche
Situationen der Erprobung aus Ihrem eigenen Leben. Damit meine ich
Herausforderungen oder Krisen, an denen Sie letztendlich gewachsen und
reifer geworden sind. Wenn der Psalmist beten kann: <i>„Erprobe mich, Herr, und durchforsche mich. Prüfe mich auf Herz und Nieren“ (Ps 26,2)</i>, dann legt er es förmlich darauf an, versucht zu werden, um sich im Glauben bewähren zu dürfen.<br />

<i>Vertrauen auf Gottes Hilfe</i></h3>
Können wir Gott gegenüber eine solche Selbstsicherheit haben? Der
Begriff der Versuchung ist für uns doch eindeutig negativ belegt. Wer in
Versuchung geführt wird, der wird vom Guten abgebracht und zum Bösen
verführt. Papst Franziskus hat Recht, wenn er sagt, dass Gott so etwas
nicht tut. Gott spielt nicht mit dem Menschen. Gott will den Menschen
nicht zum Bösen verführen. Aber wenn Gott der Allmächtige ist, dann sind
auch die Situationen der Versuchung im Tiefsten von ihm mitgetragen.
Wie das geht, ist für uns letztlich ein Geheimnis. Deshalb erinnert uns
die sechste Vaterunser-Bitte auch daran, dass Gott all unser
menschliches Verstehen übersteigt. <i>„Meine Gedanken sind nicht eure Gedanken und eure Wege sind nicht meine Wege“, heißt es beim Propheten Jesaja (Jes 55,8)</i>.
Und Menschen fragen sich ja, ob die schlimme Lebenssituation, in der
sie stecken, ursächlich mit Gott zusammenhängt oder warum er sie denn
zugelassen hat.<br />
Jesus selbst hat diese Erfahrung der Prüfung im Garten Getsemani durchgemacht. Deshalb kann der Hebräerbrief von Jesus sagen: <i>Er ist „in allem wie wir in Versuchung geführt worden“ (Hebr 4,15)</i>.
Versuchung ist die Gefahr, aufgrund von Not, Krankheit, Einsamkeit,
Verzweiflung und Todesangst an allem irre zu werden, was mir bisher im
Leben Halt gegeben hat: an meinem Glauben, meiner Hoffnung, meiner
Liebe. Jesus kennt diese existenzielle Herausforderung, in der ein
ganzes Leben zu scheitern droht. Wer betet: „und führe uns <i>nicht </i>in
Versuchung“, der bittet darum, an Gott nicht irre zu werden. Damit aber
bringt er zugleich sein Vertrauen zu Gott zum Ausdruck: Er traut Gott
zu, ihn zu bewahren. Darum nennt er ihn auch Vater.<br />
<h3 class="headCrossheader3">
<i>Reich Gottes und Kreuz</i></h3>
In eine solche Situation treibt der Geist Jesus am Beginn seines
öffentlichen Wirkens. In der Wüste soll Jesus sich seines Auftrags
gewiss werden; er soll sich entscheiden. Anders als die Evangelisten
Matthäus und Lukas erzählt Markus nicht, wie Jesus der Versuchung durch
den Satan widerstanden hat. Aber das erste Wort aus Jesu Mund macht
deutlich, wie er sich entschieden hat: <i>„Die Zeit ist erfüllt, das Reich Gottes ist nahe. Kehrt um, und glaubt an das Evangelium!“ (Mk 1,15)</i>.
Das ist die Kernbotschaft des Evangeliums. Mit Jesus bricht dieses
Reich Gottes in der Welt an. Und wie geschieht das? Indem Jesus sich den
Armen zuwendet, den Schwachen, den Sündern, denen also, die durch ihre
Lebenssituation besonders in der Gefahr stehen, an Gott zu verzweifeln.
Jesus heilt. Er vergibt Sünden. Er treibt Dämonen aus. Damit zeigt er,
dass Gottes Macht stärker ist als das Böse. Und doch gibt es in unserer
Welt bis heute immer noch genügend Situationen der Versuchung: Krieg,
Terror, Hunger, Leid, aber auch persönliche Enttäuschungen, Krisen und
Rückschläge, an denen man irrewerden kann. Das Reich Gottes ist bis
heute nicht vollendet. Deshalb beten wir immer noch um sein Kommen.<br />
Der ärgste Prüfstein des Glaubens aber ist das Kreuz. Es ist Grund genug, an Gottes Macht und Gegenwart zu zweifeln.<i> „Mein Gott, mein Gott, warum hast Du mich verlassen?“</i>,
so ruft Jesus am Kreuz (Mt 27,46). Gerade dadurch aber ist das Kreuz
für uns zugleich das Zeichen der Hoffnung. Denn Jesus ist nicht an Gott
irregeworden, auch wenn sein Gebet im Sterben ein Gebet der Klage ist.
Aber Jesus hat der Versuchung widerstanden, sich in der Situation der
größten Prüfung von Gott abzuwenden. Das hat er nicht nur für sich
getan, sondern stellvertretend für all jene, die dazu nicht die Kraft
haben. So ist Gott noch in den Abgründen unseres Lebens da und lässt
sich finden als Heiland und Erlöser.<br />
<h3 class="headCrossheader3">
<i>Als Kinder Gottes dem Bösen widerstehen</i></h3>
Liebe Schwestern und Brüder! Das Osterfest, auf das wir zugehen, ruft
uns jedes Jahr neu unsere Taufe in Erinnerung. In der Feier der
Osternacht werden wir dem Bösen widersagen, unseren Glauben an Gott
bekennen und dann mit dem neu geweihten Taufwasser besprengt werden. Der
heilige Cyprian von Karthago († 258) interpretiert das Vaterunser von
der Taufe her. Er sagt: „Der neue, wiedergeborene … Mensch sagt zu Gott
als erstes: ‚<i>Vater</i>’, weil er bereits angefangen hat, sein Sohn [und seine Tochter] zu sein.“ <i>(Domin. or. 9)</i>.
Das ist die Entscheidung, die uns in diesen 40 Tagen der Fastenzeit
abverlangt wird: der Versuchung zum Bösen zu widerstehen und uns für
Gott, unseren Vater, zu entscheiden. Wir können es. Denn durch die Taufe
haben wir bereits angefangen, Kinder Gottes zu sein.<br />
Ich lade Sie ein, die Wochen der Vorbereitung auf Ostern als eine
Zeit des Gebetes zu nutzen und im Glauben zu wachsen. Das Vaterunser mit
seinen einzelnen Bitten kann uns dazu ein guter Leitfaden sein. Von
Frère Roger Schutz, dem Gründer der Gemeinschaft von Taizé, stammt das
schöne Wort: „Lebe das, was du vom Evangelium verstanden hast. Und wenn
es noch so wenig ist. Aber lebe es.“ Wenn wir diesem Rat folgen, dann
wächst das Reich Gottes in dieser Welt und mit ihm die Kraft, der
Versuchung zu widerstehen.<br />

God.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This is what the saints show
us.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>All the saints sought refuge in

<span lang="EN-GB">Today the Gospel (Luke 16:1-8), Jesus tells the story of the canny steward.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The steward knows that his master will take away his job.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>So what does he do?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He reduces debts that people have with his
master whilst he still has the power to do so.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>

<span lang="EN-GB">But what is Jesus telling us here?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Surely he is not asking us to behave like
this at our employers expense in our daily jobs?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>No,<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Jesus is commending<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>his actions in so far as the steward is
preparing for the future after he loses his position.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Jesus wants us to think of what happens after
we lose our position here on Earth – in other words, we need to prepare for the
future after we die.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The eternal future.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span> </span></div>

<span lang="EN-GB">We need to consider what are in our possession and under our power
in this earthly life <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">and</span> channel them towards preparing for the future eternal life after we die.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>If even this
steward thought like this for the relatively short earthly life after he is cut from his work as a steward, how much more
should we Christians prepare for what happens after our earthy lives are cut down!</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">It is the first Sunday of Lent. Lent is a time for fasting and abstinence. It is good for us to do this. However, in these times, such Lenten observance is unpopular. Abstain? No, today, it is about self indulgence. It is about the self. Practicing self control? What an idea! As for denying oneself for the Glory of God - well, who does anything for the Glory of God these days! No, Lent is not popular. But we must not listen to our popular culture. Jesus is our example. He must always be our example to follow. Today, in the Gospel we hear how Jesus went out into the wilderness and fasted for forty days. The devil did not like this and tried to stop Him. The devil came and tempted Him. When people discourage you from observing Lent they are like the devil. Remember this. Follow Jesus instead.<br /><br />The devil tempted Christ. Satan tempted Him to give into His physical and material needs and desires and turn stones to bread. We live in a world that continually tells us to indulge our physical natures. We share this temptation. But Jesus replied, <i>"Man does not live on bread alone"</i>. Let us follow Jesus.<br /><br />Satan tempted him with the glories of the world. In our world of materialism, we are told to go after what the world offers and ignore God. We share this temptation. But Jesus replied, <i>"Worship the Lord your God and serve him only"</i>. Let us follow Jesus.<br /><br />Satan tempted Christ to put God to the test. Is this a temptation that does not apply to modern times? Oh no! We live in a world where we dare to challenge God when we see things we do not like (How could God do or allow this?). We live in a world that demands that God even prove Himself to Be! Do we live in a style that may be compared to spiritually throwing ourselves down from a high point and yet presuming that God will save us no matter what? As Jesus said, <i>"Do not put the Lord your God to the test"</i>. <br /><br />Forty days in the wilderness before Christ began his ministry. Forty is a special number in the Bible. Moses spent forty days on Mount Sinai. Israel spent forty years wandering in the desert. So many examples. Jonah warned Ninevah for forty days. Elijah spent forty days without food or water on Mount Horeb. There are more... Yes, forty represents a period of testing. A period of preparation. And we use the forty days of Lent to prepare for Easter. To prepare for the Risen Christ. Let use prepare properly. Fast and abstain. Fortify ourselves against temptation. </span><br />

Umkehr und Rückkehr zur vollen Gemeinschaft mit Christus im Jahr der Barmherzigkeit</h2>

Die Kirche bereitet sich seit frühester Zeit
durch eine vierzigtägige Bußzeit auf die österliche Feier des Todes und
der Auferstehung Jesu Christi vor. Die Christen bemühen sich ihren
Lebensstil so zu ändern, dass durch Gebet, Verzicht, Versöhnung und
konkrete Nächstenliebe Christus mehr Raum in ihrem Leben gewinnt. Sind
sie untereinander barmherzig, legen sie Zeugnis ab für die unendliche
Barmherzigkeit Gottes.<br />
<br />
Die Fastenzeit ist die bevorzugte Zeit der Gnade für die Umkehr und
die Rückkehr zur vollen Gemeinschaft mit Christus. Dies geschieht
insbesondere durch die volle Teilnahme an der Feier der Eucharistie,
aber auch in besonderem Maß durch den Empfang des Bußsakramentes.<br />
<br />
In der Feier der Eucharistie wird die volle Gemeinschaft der
Getauften mit dem Herrn und seiner Kirche sichtbar. Die Kirche empfiehlt
daher den ehrfürchtigen Kommunionempfang bei jeder Messfeier. Jeder
Gläubige aber soll wenigstens einmal im Jahr, nach Möglichkeit in der
österlichen Zeit (zwischen Aschermittwoch und Pfingsten), die Kommunion
empfangen und durch diese volle Teilnahme an der Eucharistie seine
Gemeinschaft mit der Kirche zum Ausdruck bringen.<br />
<br />
Im Bußsakrament wird dem Christen, der seine Sünden bereut und
aufrichtig bekennt, im Namen Gottes die Vergebung geschenkt; so erfährt
er konkret die göttliche Barmherzigkeit. Jeder Christ soll sich
regelmäßig prüfen, ob er in einer wichtigen Sache bewusst und freiwillig
gegen Gott und gegen die Kirche, gegen seine Mitmenschen oder gegen
sich selbst schuldig geworden ist. Wer sich in diesem Sinne einer
schweren Sünde bewusst ist, soll diese möglichst bald, wenigstens aber
innerhalb eines Jahres in der Feier des Bußsakramentes bekennen. Er ist
aber auch verpflichtet, allen angerichteten Schaden nach besten Kräften
gutzumachen. Auch den Gläubigen, die keine schweren Sünden zu beichten
haben, wird zur sakramentalen Sündenvergebung die öftere Feier des
Bußsakramentes empfohlen, wodurch sie Gott seiner überaus reichen
Barmherzigkeit vergewissert. Die persönliche Beichte fördert zudem die
Selbsterkenntnis und trägt zur inneren Reife bei. Die Zeit für die
österlichen Sakramente (Bußsakrament, Kommunion) erstreckt sich in
unserer Erzdiözese von Aschermittwoch bis Pfingstmontag einschließlich.<br />
<br />
Durch das Fasten und alle anderen Formen des Verzichts wird der
Mensch frei gegenüber den eigenen Bedürfnissen und Wünschen. Er wird
frei gegenüber Gott und seinen Mitmenschen. Das Abstinenzgebot mit dem
Verzicht auf Fleischspeisen am Aschermittwoch und Karfreitag
verpflichtet alle ab dem vollendeten 14. Lebensjahr. Das Fastengebot mit
dem „Fastenopfer“ nach der freien Verantwortung des einzelnen Christen
verpflichtet zwischen dem 18. bis zum Beginn des 60. Lebensjahres. Als
Zeichen der Umkehr im Sinne der bewussten Hinkehr zu Gott und den
Menschen, besonders der Bedürftigen, bittet der Erzbischof das
Abstinenz- und Fastengebot darüber hinaus an allen Freitagen der
Fastenzeit zu befolgen. Entschuldigt ist, wer durch Krankheit, auf
Reisen, am fremden Tisch oder durch schwere körperliche Arbeit daran
gehindert ist. Seelsorger und Eltern sollen dafür sorgen, dass auch
diejenigen, die wegen ihres jugendlichen Alters zu Fasten und Abstinenz
nicht verpflichtet sind, zu einem echten Verständnis der Buße als
Hinwendung zu Gott und den Notleidenden geführt werden.<br />
<br />
Möge die Zeit des Fastens und des Betens im Jahr der Barmherigkeit uns alle näher zu Gott und zueinander führen.<br />

<strong>Queridas irmãs e queridos irmãos!</strong><br />

Este ano, o tempo da Quaresma reveste-se de um carácter muito especial.
O tempo da Quaresma no ano da Misericórdia, que começámos a celebrar
com toda a Igreja a 8 de Dezembro de 2015, põe no centro das nossas
vidas, mais do que é habitual, a misericórdia de Deus. Durante estes
quarenta dias do tempo de penitência pascal, devemos reflectir acerca da
nossa caminhada com Deus e com os homens, perceber onde nos encontramos
na nossa vida de fé e de oração, estar atentos aos nossos irmãos e
irmãs, abrirmo-nos a Deus. Uma das mais belas imagens para este tempo de
conversão é a parábola do Filho Pródigo (Lc 15, 11-32), que nos fala de
um filho, que não quer continuar a viver na casa do pai bondoso, no bem
estar do lar paterno. O filho quer fazer a experiência do “mundo”,
procurar a felicidade noutros lugares, pensando que poderia ter uma vida
mais agradável longe de casa, e longe do pai. No início tudo corre bem:
não tem saudades de casa, diverte-se, e está sempre bem disposto. Até
ao dia em que o dinheiro acaba, que os pseudo-amigos começam a
abandoná-lo, e tem de começar a trabalhar, a guardar porcos. Depois de
fazer um exame de consciência, e de uma grande reflexão, o filho decide
regressar a casa e pedir ao pai que o deixe trabalhar como se fosse um
dos seus empregados. A reacção do pai é a parte mais maravilhosa desta
história: não se zanga com o filho, mas, pelo contrário, espera
ansiosamente, todos os dias, o seu regresso a casa. Quando ainda estava
longe, o pai vê o filho e, enchendo-se de compaixão, corre a abraçá-lo,
não lhe pede explicações, e faz uma grande festa para celebrar o seu
regresso.<br />
<br />
Quando aplicado à nossa vida, esta parábola mostra-nos a misericórdia
infinita de Deus. Deus está, todos os dias, à nossa espera, à espera
que voltemos para Ele. Sim, Deus tem pressa em se encontrar connosco,
para nos envolver com o seu amor e misericórdia. Podemos dizer que Deus é
assim, e é assim para todos os homens. Este ano, o tempo da Quaresma
convida-nos a deixarmo-nos tocar pela misericórdia de Deus, a
deixarmo-nos invadir por esta misericórdia, e sentirmo-nos amados por
Ele.<br />
O sacramento da reconciliação, no qual vos convido a participar
especialmente durante este tempo da Quaresma, é um momento privilegiado
para sentir o amor e a misericórdia de Deus. Não se trata de nos
sentirmos culpados, de termos a consciência pesada, ou de nos acusarem
do mal que fizemos - mas se quisermos ser verdadeiramente honestos temos
de reconhecer que não somos assim tão perfeitos, como muitas vezes
queremos ser, diante de nós, e dos outros. Não se trata de uma questão
de culpa, mas ao contrário, de nos deixarmos tocar pela misericórdia de
Deus, que se expressa de uma forma muito concreta nas belas palavras da
fórmula da absolvição dos pecados pronunciada pelo padre. Podemos então
experimentar como somos importantes para Deus, como cada um de nós é
único a Seus olhos, e como Ele nos envolve com o Seu amor. Não posso
deixar de repetir mais uma vez: Voltai a confessar-vos! Abri-vos à
misericórdia de Deus! Aceitai o amor de Deus!<br />
<br />
A Quaresma não é apenas um tempo para nos deixarmos tocar pela
misericórdia de Deus, mas também para praticarmos as Obras de
Misericórdia. A tradição da Igreja conhece, para além das 7 obras
espirituais, 7 obras de misericórdia corporais: dar de comer a que tem
fome, acolher o estrangeiro, vestir os nus, visitar os enfermos, visitar
os presos, enterrar os mortos, e dar esmola. Muitas destas obras são
feitas por instituições da Igreja ou do Estado. Mas também aqui, e de
forma ainda mais evidente, a questão principal passa por abrir o coração
às pessoas com dificuldades, deixar-se tocar pela angústia dos que
sofrem, e pensar como poderei, conscientemente, ajudar o outro no seu
sofrimento, como lhe oferecer um lugar na minha vida, e na vida da
sociedade, para que possa sentir-se aceite. Neste aspecto, os cristãos
são particularmente interpelados, uma vez que vivemos numa época em que
um tão grande número de pessoas vem bater à porta da Europa para poder
encontrar um lar seguro. Será que estas pessoas, de repente, quando
estão entre nós, perdem a dignidade de seres humanos? Não podemos falar
apenas de um Deus que deve ser misericordioso connosco, quando fechamos
o nosso coração, as nossas portas e as nossas fronteiras aos outros.<br />
Queridas irmãs, queridos irmãos! Festejamos ainda neste Ano Santo da
Misericórdia, o 350º aniversário da eleição de Nossa Senhora,
Consoladora dos Aflitos, como padroeira da cidade do Luxemburgo. Não
pensem que é um jubileu que nada tem a ver com o Ano Santo. Podemos
invocar e reconhecer Maria como Mãe da Misericórdia, “Mater
misericordiae”. Há mais de três séculos que a população se entregou à
protecção e intercessão de Maria, e que desde então nos acompanha no
Luxemburgo, protegendo o nosso país e os seus habitantes. Assim, o
jubileu da Consoladora deve ser para nós um tempo de graça, durante o
qual nos entregamos de novo a Maria, depositamos nas suas mãos as
súplicas e a renovação da nossa Igreja do Luxemburgo, durante o qual lhe
podemos entregar as preocupações do mundo. Maria acompanha-nos e
conduz-nos, agora e sempre, ao seu Filho Jesus Cristo, em quem
resplandece a misericórdia de Deus para nós, para que também nós
possamos ser tão misericordiosos como o nosso Pai no Céu!<br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Today we hear the gospel reading about the Marriage at Cana where Jesus turned water into wine.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Firstly, let us remark on the fact that there is great joy and merriment associated with this miracle. </span><span style="font-size: large;">This miracle reveals the Glory of God and we should rejoice and find happiness in God's Glory. Heaven will be eternal rejoicing and happiness in the presence of God's Glory. It has often been compared to a wedding feast. And today we hear how Jesus performs His first miracle at a wedding feast.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">But let us look at the role of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Whilst the other guests enjoy themselves, she is ever watchful. She sees that there is a problem. The wine will run out and this will embarrass the wedding couple and their family. With an open and loving heart, she understands their problem and brings it directly to Jesus. She calls on her Son. She intercedes for them. She trusts Him completely and herself acts in accordance with that trust when she calls the attendants and says <i>"</i></span><i><span style="font-size: large;">Do whatever He tells you!"</span></i><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">And this is still the way it is! Mary sees our problems and cares for us too. We should not hesitate to bring our troubles to her. She will intercede for us with her Son. She also teaches us to put our complete trust in Jesus Christ. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">One thing puzzles some people, why did Jesus say, <i>"What would you have me do, woman? My hour has not yet come."</i> What does this mean? After all, Jesus did go on and do what Mary hoped He would do....</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">It means that God has definite plans for the future. But it also means that things may be changed by prayer. Yes, God will respond to our prayers. God will respond to intercession on our behalf from the saints. God will respond to a plea from Mary, Our Lady, Our Mother in Heaven. Even though His hour had not yet come, the hour of God Incarnate, He still responded to her. Yes, we must have confidence in Mary. We find our way to Jesus through her. Even saying one sincere Hail Mary can produce profound miracles:<br /><br />Hail Mary full of Grace, the Lord is with Thee<br />Blessed art Thou amongst Women <br />and Blessed is the Fruit of Thy Womb, Jesus.<br /><br />Holy Mary, Mother of God<br /><b>Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.</b><br />Amen </span><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>

Même si son heure était pas encore venu, l'heure de Dieu incarné, Il a répondu encore à elle. Oui, nous devons avoir confiance en Marie. Nous trouvons notre chemin à Jésus par elle. <span style="font-size: large;">Today we<b> </b>celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany. We remember how the three Magi, sometimes called wise men, sometimes called the three kings, came to visit Jesus. They had a long journey in order to get to Jesus and God provided them with the star to guide them.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Our lives should also be a journey to Jesus. Do we live as though our ultimate goal is to be with Our Lord? Or are we distracted by the world? In the Gospel we hear of King Herod. When he heard what the Three Kings said, he was frightened of the Child Jesus. He was frightened that he would lose his worldly power and was willing to do anything to keep it. He told the Kings to come back to him. But they avoided him. </span><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-size: large;">He desired to kill Jesus. </span>When we leave today, we will leave by the side aisles of the church to remind us. We must also be wary of those who would deny Our Lord Jesus Christ.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">When the Three Kings arrived, what did they find? They found a child who was born in a stable. Yes, the King of Kings was born where the animals eat. Jesus teaches us from the beginning that humility is a good thing. It is what we are to bring to God, our Creator.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Do not be proud. Even in our ordinary daily lives, do you think we can do it alone? No, there are those that grow our food, fix our houses, drive our buses. We have parents that raise us, teachers that teach us. No, we depend on others. It is better for us when we are humble enough to accept help. If we do not accept the hand that helps us after we fall, we risk falling again and not getting up. Sometimes real damage is done. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">And in our spiritual lives we also need to be humble enough to realise we cannot do it alone. The Kings would not have found Christ if God had not graced them with the star. We also need God's graces to find Jesus and be saved. We need to pray to God for His grace. We need to follow the teachings of the Church just as the Wise men followed the star. We need to receive God's special graces through the sacraments. </span><br />

Il a dit aux Kings de revenir à lui. Mais ils l'évitaient. Il voulait tuer Jésus. Lorsque nous quittons aujourd'hui, nous allons partir par les nefs latérales de l'église pour nous le rappeler. Nous devons aussi faire attention de ceux qui voudraient nier notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ. <br /><br />Lorsque les Rois Mages sont arrivés, qu'est ce qu'ils trouvent? Ils ont trouvé un enfant qui est né dans une étable. Oui, le Roi des Rois est né où les animaux mangent. Jésus nous enseigne depuis le début que l'humilité est une bonne chose. Nous devons apporter notre humilité de Dieu, notre Créateur.<br /><br />Ne pas être fiers. Même dans nos vies quotidiennes ordinaires, pensez-vous que nous pouvons le faire seul? Non, il y a ceux qui poussent nos aliments, fixer nos maisons, conduire nos autobus. Nous avons des parents qui nous soulèvent, les enseignants qui nous enseignent. Non, nous dépendons des autres. Il vaut mieux pour nous quand nous avons assez pour accepter de l'aide humilité. Si nous ne acceptons pas la main qui nous aide après nous tombons, nous risquons de retomber et de ne pas se lever. Parfois dommage réel est fait.<br /><br />Et dans notre vie spirituelle, nous devons aussi avoir l'humilité de réaliser nous ne pouvons pas le faire seuls. Les rois auraient pas trouvé le Christ, si Dieu avait pas la star par la grâce de Dieu. Nous devons aussi les grâces de Dieu pour trouver Jésus et être sauvés. Nous devons prier Dieu pour sa grâce. Nous devons suivre les enseignements de l'Église, tout comme les hommes sages ont suivi l'étoile. Nous devons recevoir des grâces spéciales de Dieu par les sacrements. </span></div>

<span style="color: cyan;">English: </span>Today we celebrate the Blessed Sacrament. The true Body and Blood of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Without the Blessed Sacrament we would have no Mass. Why? Because the Mass is a sacrifice. It is the sacrifice of Our Lord offered up as the Blessed Sacrament. It is this that makes the Mass the Greatest of Christian Prayers. It is by being at Mass, by praying the Mass, that we can join our prayers to this Sacrifice of Our Lord. The protestant denominations do not have this. They do not have the Mass. They do not have the Blessed Sacrament. We take Jesus at His word when He says that It is His Body. How can it be? But we know how things can be with God! We read it right at the beginning of the Bible in Genesis. When God says let it be so, then it is so. So it is with the Blessed Eucharist. Jesus says that it is His Body and Blood and It is so.<br />

Today, we make a procession outside the Church with the Blessed Sacrament. Our Lord is with us. We take Him outside the church because the world belongs to Him and we should show Him to the world and show our reverence to Him. I know one time a man who had abandoned his faith as a Catholic but witnessed the Corpus Christi procession. He saw the reverence shown and wondered about it. Through this, he then properly recognised the Blessed Sacrament for Who it is, repented, and returned to the church.<br />
<br />
Yes, we must show reverence to the Blessed Sacrament. This is why we do not want It touched by unconsecrated hands. It is why we will kneel and receive Communion on the tongue. It is why we approach the Tabernacle with utmost respect. Today there is much irreverence shown. On Corpus Christi we pray for those who act irreverently towards the Blessed Sacrament. <br />
